Is it hard to get accepted into SFU? ›

However, Simon Fraser University is very selective in admissions. With an acceptance rate of 59%, it is slightly selective to get into Simon Fraser University. To get into Simon Fraser University students require to score anywhere between a 2.40 to 3.20 GPA.

The number of courses which a student may repeat in a degree program is limited to five. The number of times a student may repeat a course is once. Courses completed at Simon Fraser University for which a student has already received transfer credit from another institution will count within five repeats limit.

SFU's Business program has an admission average of 85%. SFU's Engineering program has an admission average of 80%. SFU's Arts program has an admission average of 78%. SFU's Science program has an admission average of 76%.

Since Fall is the most popular choice for admissions, their acceptance offers are made between January and June - that's 6 months! However, you likely won't have to wait that 6 months. Individuals who've applied to SFU can get their acceptances as early as 1-2 weeks!

Academic Probation

However, once you have attempted nine units, your record is evaluated at the end of each term and your standing may change. If you have attempted at least 9 units in one or more terms and your cumulative grade point average (CGPA) is below 2.00, you will be placed on Academic Probation (OAP).

If you present six or more approved List A courses, SFU will remove the lowest, non-required List A course. If you present five or fewer List A courses, your lowest List B course will be removed.

Most SFU programs require you to have completed a few specific high school courses. They also require you to achieve a minimum grade point average (GPA). This minimum GPA is typically around 70% to 80%. However, we recommend aiming for a GPA in the 90% range to be a competitive candidate.

Can I get into SFU with 2.0 GPA? ›

General requirements

If you have attempted 9 - 23 units and are in good academic standing (you have a minimum GPA of a 2.0) you will be required to meet high school application deadlines and admission requirements. You are required to declare all previously attempted high school and post-secondary studies.

Spaces on campus are limited and offers are made to students on a first-come, first-served basis. However, those who apply will only get an offer from SFU Residence and Housing after they've officially accepted an offer of admission from the University, so their original date of residence application still matters.

Admission to a master's program requires a minimum of:

a bachelor's degree from SFU or its equivalent from a recognized institution. a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0/4.33 (B), or a grade point average of at least 3.33/4.33 (B+) based on the last 60 units of undergraduate courses.

Application status updates will appear on your Student Center (goSFU): Spring term (January): Admission offers are made from September to November. Summer term (May): Admission offers are made from January to April. Fall term (September): Admission offers are made from January to June.

Importance of GPA for SFU

The university uses a 4.0 GPA scale, and applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 to be eligible for admission.

Though the tuition may seem a little higher than SFU, UBC is still more prestigious, older and renowned institution within Canada and across the world. Getting into either of the two universities is equally difficult as the exam scores required are similar and the acceptance rate also does not differ drastically.

Canadian and International High School Applicants

If you are completing a Canadian High School curriculum outside Quebec, your admission will be based on an evaluation of all approved Grade 11 and 12 courses, with greater emphasis on List A courses.
