The Laurel County Sheriff's Office has released the following information regarding law enforcement action:
— Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Daniel Grigsby, with assistance from Deputy Charlie Johnson and Deputy Jamie Etherton, arrested two individuals, a male and a female, on Oct. 21 at 6:36 p.m. The arrest occurred off Pine Top Road at a grocery store there after Grigsby entered the store parking lot to enter the store to make a purchase and observed a suspicious tan colored Ford Explorer in the parking lot. Grigsby conducted a check on the license plate and VIN number on the vehicle determining that it had been reported stolen and that the Laurel County Sheriff’s office had filed a report recently on that vehicle. Grigsby entered the store observing only two persons in the store along with the store clerk. Grigsby interviewed the female subject inside and learned that she was an occupant of the vehicle. During the interview, the male subject fled outside and fled the scene but was located by Johnson and Etherton a short distance away. The two individuals were arrested and during the investigation deputies located a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine in their possession. The two individuals were identified as: Elisha Carpenter, age 40, of London and her husband William Malicoat, age 36, of London, both charged with receiving stolen property under $10,000 and first-degree possession of a controlled substance (meth), first offense. These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
— Laurel Sheriff’s Detective Chris Edwards arrested James Bailey, age 23, of East Bernstadt on Oct. 21 at approximately 4:34 a.m. The arrest occurred off Game Cock Road, approximately six miles north of London, after the Sheriff’s office conducted an investigation and learned that a 5-year-old child had been injured by Bailey in such a manner by placing the child in a situation where it could have caused the child serious physical injury. Bailey was charged with first-degree criminal abuse, child 12 or under. Bailey was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center. Assisting at the scene was Sergeant John Inman, Deputy Bryon Lawson and Deputy Shannon Jones.
— Laurel Sheriff’s Deputy Bryon Lawson arrested Ryan Gerber, age 42, of Corbin on Oct. 22 at approximately 3:23 a.m. The arrest occurred off East Cumberland Gap Parkway in Corbin after Lawson observed a black colored Chevrolet weaving on the roadway and conducted a traffic stop determining that the driver was under the influence. Gerber was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, first offense, and was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
— Laurel Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Scott arrested Robert Brown, age 35, of Hyden, Kentucky, on Oct. 22 at approximately 10:05 a.m. The arrest occurred off Slate Lick Road, approximately three miles east of London, after Brown was charged on a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on charges of public intoxication of controlled substances. Brown was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
— Laurel Sheriff’s Detective Chris Edwards along with Detective Sergeant Kevin Berry, Detective Kyle Gray and Deputy Brad Mink arrested two individuals off Maple Grove Road, approximately four miles west of London, on Oct. 23 at approximately 12:51 p.m. These two individuals were charged on outstanding bench warrants and are identified as:
• Donna Sizemore, age 49, of London charged on a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest for failure to appear in court on charges of theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting under $500 and public intoxication – controlled substances.
• Taylor Sizemore, age 27, of London charged on a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest for failure to appear in court on charges of fourth-degree assault, domestic violence.
The two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
— Sheriff John Root, Laurel Sheriff’s Detective Jason Back along with Detective James Sizemore, Deputy Daniel Grigsby and his K-9 – “Edge”, arrested five individuals, four of them on drug charges, off Morentown Road in London on Oct. 24 at approximately 3:55 p.m. The arrests occurred while the Sheriff’s office was conducting a drug investigation there following numerous complaints. Deputies located suspected crystal meth and drug paraphernalia. Those arrested included:
1. Austin C. Earls, age 25, of London charged with conspiracy to traffic in a controlled substance, first offense; and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition, Earls was charged on a Whitley District Court bench warrant of arrest for failure to appear in court on charges of theft by unlawful taking, shoplifting under $500.
2. Zachary A. Jarvis, age 28, of London charged with conspiracy to traffic in a controlled substance, first offense; and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Jarvis was also charged with public intoxication of controlled substances.
3. Rocky Lee Whitaker, age 42, of Somerville, Ohio, charged with conspiracy to traffic in a controlled substance, first offense; and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
4. Gary R. Wagers, age 40, of London charged with conspiracy to traffic in a controlled substance, first offense; and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
5. Candace Kirchheimer, age 37, of London charged with driving on DUI suspended license, first offense.
All five individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center. Assisting also with the Sheriff’s office was: Captain Chuck Johnson, Lieutenant Greg Poynter and CSO John Dyche.
— Laurel Sheriff’s Deputy Jamie Etherton, along with Deputy Travis Napier and Deputy Daniel Grigsby, arrested Lisa M. Brock, age 43, of Keavy on Oct. 24 at approximately 4:15 p.m. The arrest occurred at Walmart near Corbin in southern Laurel County after Walmart’s loss prevention team detained Brock. Upon arrival at the scene, Etherton learned that apparently Brock attempted to leave the store with unpaid merchandise. In addition, during the arrest and investigation, Brock was found in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia in under garments. Brock was charged with theft by unlawful taking, shoplifting under $500; third-degree possession of a controlled substance; and possession of drug paraphernalia and was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
— Laurel Sheriff’s Detective Chris Edwards, along with Detective Sergeant Kevin Berry and Detective Kyle Gray, arrested Kyle Feltner, age 32, of East Bernstadt on Oct. 24 at 1:41 p.m. The arrest occurred off Litton Cemetery Road, approximately six miles north of London, after detectives determined through investigation that Feltner had been exchanging narcotics for sexual favors. Feltner was charged with third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense; and third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense.
